NOTD and Oh dear George!

I was very VERY excited to find an Asda living store with their cosmetics in the other day, mainly their polishes which were all £1. Unfortunately everyone else had clearly been just as excited as what was left was a very small range indeed, the teeny little turn around.. shelf thingy... was almost empty.

A few colours remained, one of which was Twister, a gorgeous metallic looking purple in the bottle... Although it wasn't until I was applying it and it was drying matte that I located the "Matte Finish" sticker on the top... Oops!

Ooh, look how pretty! Unfortunately these pictures were taken in the evening with flash, I would have taken new ones the next day had I not been greeted with chips... Which now, less than 48 hours after painting nails have become this..

Admittedly, this is my right hand, and the above is my left, but that doesn't really matter ;)

I'll update this post if I have any better experiences with this in the future, but for now..

Asda, you disappoint me!

Have you had any experiences with asda polish?

MUA lipstick disaster...

The MUA range- especially the lipsticks- have grown on me over the last month or so, the range of colours, versatility, their lovely smooth sheen finish... The only down points for me are the availability (rubbish where I am) and this..

A hideous sheer, greasy, glittery mess. This is shade 5, I suggest you avoid it unless you're a 7 year old girl! It could have been such a nice colour if they'd just left the glitter alone!

MUA don't give you an information on the colour, or finish, or how much freaking glitter they've put in! They give you a tiny view of the lipstick in question (like the picture below) and you order hoping for the best... I know that it's only £1, but I'd still rather not be buying things there's no chance I'm ever going to wear!

Rant over ;)

Have you had any recent makeup disasters that have left you looking like a glitterball or worse?

Mavadry review.. A bit rubbish?!

Whilst busy finding things to add to my order on fragrance direct (dirt cheap polishes on there!) I came across a teeny bottle of Mavadry, it's just 5ml but I thought it would be perfect to try out, and hopefully it wouldn't go gloopy like a bigger bottle.. I paid £2.50 for it, which is pretty reasonable I think for a trial go!

What Mavala say:
"dries nail polish in a few seconds, prevents flaking, enhances nail colour and gives a brilliant sheen"
To be honest I think maybe I was expecting too much in the first place... Think super-fast-dry that doesn't dent or wrinkle after just 30 minutes. Mavadry seems to offer no such thing.

Today I attempted a fourth try with Mavadry. In fairness it does dry my nails on the surface reaaally fast, however I then ruined my nails an hour and a half later by leaning on one of them and I don't know what I did to the other two! And the last time I used it it took 9 hours(!!!) for my nails to be dent and wrinkle-proof which is far longer than with no magic topcoat.

I've tried putting it on thickly, tried putting it on thinly. I always leave a minute before putting it on top of my polish as suggested and I wait between layers! WHAT ELSE CAN I DO WITH IT?!

Are all fast dry topcoat's like this? Am I doomed to wrinkly nail polish forever?! Or is Mavadry just not good?!

What fast dry top coat do you use, and how long does it take to completely dry your nail polish?

Marian Newman Inkredible pen.. Orange nail disaster!

I posted before about Marian Newman's Inkredible pens. At the time I was just un-impressed with them... Then I took the polish off... ORANGE NAILS! For something that has a main marketing point of not staining, this is awful. I've never experienced staining like it. Discolouration after having polish on for months (not the same one..) yes, but never orange staining like this... So strong are my feelings about this I took a picture, if you dislike feet, look away now...!

Horrible yes?! :(  it was more noticeable when my fingernails were naked, but it's bad enough without a comparison! My poor poor toesies.

Stay away from these rubbishy pens, I've sent mine back (thanks Bicky! I wouldn't have sent it back had you not successfully done yours!) and am hoping for a refund, as it's not fit for purpose and doesn't do what it says...

Any suggestions on how to save my poor nails from the Orange Kingdom?!

Rimmel "60 seconds fast dry"...

So the other day mum came home with a Rimmel 60 second nail polish in Purple Reign. A gorgeous colour, which made claims for being super fast drying, only needing one coat, and having a brush that made application amazingly easy.

The first application was fine, though it needed 2 coats we were both impressed, and it lasted soo well considering the abuse my mum gives her nails (whether she's got nail varnish on or not, the nails don't get different treatment!) about 4 days after the initial application there was definite tip-wear and she decided to re-apply, this time being different to the first time. The formula of the polish was more gloopy, slower drying, and generally harder to apply. There were noticeable streaks and it could definitely have done with a third coat. Not what you expect from a polish that makes claims of only needing one coat!

Before we'd had this trouble with the purple I ordered "funtime fuschia" online, which arrived yesterday, I applied it- a base, 2 coats, and a top coat- and left it to dry between the different layers. It was SOOO SLOW to dry. There's also some bubbling and after an hour of the final coat being on I changed into my pyjamas only to discover that I'd been left with fabric imprints ONE WHOLE HOUR after applying a "60 second" polish... Completely unamused!

I love the colour so much (please excuse my freaky veiny hand in this picture!),but the formula and drying time are ridiculous, even with a fast drying top coat on. I was actually so disappointed I emailed Rimmel, so we'll see what/if they have to say for themselves!
