Lush lip care... scrub and tint!

It was my birthday a few Mondays ago (the 8th)  and as well as turning 19 (gaaah!) I got some really lovely bits and bobs from very generous friends and family!

I got some Lush stuff (thank you Libby!) which was really nice, it's not been something I've been treating myself to recently and I'd always been reluctant (I normally already have an arm full of products by the time I get there!) to buy the lip scrub, making do with a soft toothbrush instead and not convinced that something like this could do a better job.

I've been using the bubblegum one, which has a very sweet smell and taste to it, some people love it, others hate it, I'm in the love it camp! It's basically just sugar, oil and some colouring/flavouring, but the consistency is perfect and I personally don't think it would be that easy to make, and not worth it for the hassle. It's been doing a really good job of getting rid of dry skin on my lips and leaving them smooth which is great! The lip scrub definitely does a better job than my toothbrush exfoliating was, so worth the money I think! £4.95 for a 25g pot that will last FOREVER.

Next is the It Started With a Kiss lip tint, which smells very strongly of general christmass-y ness- I know, helpful right?! ;) - To begin with I was a little off put by this but you soon get used to it and the look of it on my lips over-rides any scent issues for me!

It's a beautiful pinky-red and the first real red that's got near my face. It manages to look good without making me look too pale or over the top and with the first ingredient being Coconut oil it does a great job of moisturising too. Staying power is impressive, and unlike some other Lush lip balms I've tried this is perfectly smooth and easy enough to get out of the tin even in cooler weather, the tip is to use the back of your fingernail to get it out in the first place. £4.95 for 10g and I anticipate this lasting a long while.

Lovely ideas for Christmas gifts, and highly recommended by me!

Lush review... King of Skin

Body conditioner to make dry skin smooth and flexible. The King of Skin exists to make your skin softer and smoother. You wash, you stroke the bar over your body, you rinse it off, you dry and you feel as if you've been transported inside the skin of someone younger. We use cocoa butter, shea butter and coconut butter, bananas, toning essential oils, jojoba and almond oils, fresh avocado and oatmeal. You will be mildly astonished at the effect which these natural ingredients can have when used properly.

It's amazing. I have really bumpy skin (Keratosis Pilaris) on my arms and legs, as well as pretty dry skin in general, and this makes such a huge difference to it. As it's solid when room temperature I tend to stick it under the shower briefly (leave it in for too long and the whole thing will disappear down the plug hole!) to soften it up, and then it becomes amazingly slippery. It's really quick to use, and it means that you don't have to mess around with moisturising when you get out of the shower, which is especially nice in winter (or British summers...). The effects last for at least 3 days for me in general, and the bar itself lasts for ages as long as you don't leave it in/under hot water. 

The scent of it is hard to describe, for a Lush product it's very lightly scented, so if that's something that bothers you then this is worth looking at!

The only bad thing about it is how slippy it makes the bath/shower, so do be careful..! 

I really can't recommend this enough!

Uh-Ohh...

After unreservedly squawking my love for L'Oreal's perfect wash and it's cute little scrublet I've run into something... Spot City.

I'm putting this down to the perfect wash as it's also a problem my mum's having since using it, and my skin's already feeling better having quietly gone back to Lush's Angels on Bare Skin. 

Seems it's just a little too harsh for my skin, so beware! x

People tend to either love it or hate it... I'm in the love it camp.

I'm not overly keen on the shop, the overpowering smell makes it hard to tell what the lighter scented products smell of and tends to put people off. Neither am I keen on the £3.95 postage charge for buying online.

However I think that lush products make excellent presents and are nice for adding that extra something to a bath or shower.

My favourite products include:

King of Skin- in the body butters range- leaves me with smooooth smooooth skin that lasts for at least a couple of days. It's not cheap (£6.80) but it lasts for ages. Especially if you don't leave it on the side of the bath where your brother then lets the hot shower water dissolve a significant part of it! Also, if you replaced your usual body moisturiser with this then it'd probably come out at about the same price.

Buffy-again, in the body butters range- is a really scrubby exfoliator, I've only ever bought the smaller one (5.00 for 90g, or £9.00 for 200g) and again this lasts a decent amount of time, and it moisturises at the same time. My only problem with this is the bits it leaves in the bath!

The Olive Branch is a shower gel (3 sizes, £3.90 for 100g, £7.75 for 250g, £13.95 for 500g) I use it with a buff puff/shower net and the smallest bottle has lasted me months so far- and I don't smell bad thankyou!- but you only need a teeny bit as it lathers up if you use it with a shower net. The smell is gorgeous, and lingers on your skin, a smoky slightly sweet scent (I think they say mandarins?) I cannot get enough of it!

angels on bare skin (AOBS, £5.50 for 100g, enough to last you around 6 months, maybe more) I really really like this, my only problem with it is the shelf life, at most it's 6 months, and sometimes you get one that's a little less than that. This is a really good daily face wash that exfoliates gently too, it leaves my skin beautifully soft and it smells lovely.

Dark Angels (£5.50 for 100g) I don't have dark or oily skin and this is still a great exfoliator, the problem again is the shelf life. If you're only using it once or twice a week then you've still got quite a bit left by the time 6 months comes round. I like it mixed with AOBS for a more scrubby face wash but slightly less harsh than this on it's own. You can also use this as a face mask if you add less water to the paste and leave it on for 5-10 minutes.

The Comforter (£3.95 for 200g, I can get between 4 and 6 baths out of this as still get plenty of bubbles) is a sweetly scented bubble bar that turns the water pink. The bubbles are long lasting and it makes an ordinary bath really exciting!
